Coachbetter is excited to provide the international coaches with the opportunity to access the FAW Level One / Football Leaders Award (online) as an entry point for coaches all over the World to the FAW Coach Education Pathway.
The FAW Level One / Football Leaders Award (online) is the prerequisite qualification for coaches to move through the FAW pathway.
Insights into the FAW coaching pathway: A new approach to modern soccer coaching education
The FAW coaching pathway offers a flexible blend of in-person and online learning to help coaches master the essentials of modern soccer. Designed to support your growth, the course focuses on developing your ability to plan, deliver, and reflect on sessions that enhance players’ technical, physical, psychological, and social skills. With online modules, webinars, and practical in-person workshops, you’ll also apply your learning in your own coaching environment. Plus, there’s no formal assessment, making it an accessible and practical way to elevate your coaching.
FAW Level 1 Award for US-coaches
FAW Football Leaders Award (Level 1) This online eLearning award provides a basic and engaging introduction to the organisation of football practices in a fun, safe environment with an emphasis on engaging with the young players of today. The award provides learners with an opportunity to discover and consider the technical and social support that we, as coaches, can provide to our players, discussing various practical aspects.
The Coachbetter / FAW pathway was the most thought provoking and inspiring coaching experience I have been part of. The quality of the tutors and course material combined with the FAW Welsh Way philosophy to encourage coaches to show their own personality and philosophy opened my eyes to another way of looking at the art of coaching.

FAW Coaching Pathway
Working with the Football Association of Wales (FAW) Coachbetter is proud to bring World Leading European Coach Education to US. Coaches in the US can start their FAW Coaching journey with the Football Association of Wales (FAW). Coaches can now join the likes of Mikel Arteta and Roberto Martinez by starting their FAW coach education pathway.
FAW Coaching Pathway Graduates
Mikel Arteta, Thierry Henry, Patrick Vieira Roberto Martinez as well as former Liverpool assistant coaches Pepjin Ljinders and Vitor Matos were both recent graduates from the FAW Pathway while current Welsh National Manager Craig Bellamy, Sol Campbell, Marcel Desailly, Freddie Ljungberg and David Ginola have also been through the system.
Over the last two years over 200 coaches from the US have progressed through the Coachbetter/FAW pathway.
Our cohort of College coaches, Executive Directors, Directors of Coaching and Coaches in both the male and female game in the US are now connected through our pathway to continue sharing best practice and building their network. Coaches from every major competition level from MLS and NWSL to recreational programs have been represented on out courses since 2023.

FAW Football Leaders Award (Level 1) This online eLearning award provides a basic and engaging introduction to the organisation of football practices in a fun, safe environment with an emphasis on engaging with the young players of today. These include: the importance of area size, practice transitions, progressions and regressions, as well as ensuring the learner takes a closer look at themselves, their role as a coach, and how they currently share the messages they provide players.
FAW Coaching Pathway: A new approach to modern soccer coaching education
The FAW Coaching Pathway is delivered utilizing a variety of in-person education contacts and online workshops. It is designed to educate candidates in the technical, physical, psychological, and social requirements of modern football. It will develop candidates’ ability to plan, prepare, deliver, and reflect on coaching sessions for the development of players.
Courses have been designed to support the modern coach, with education consisting of online modules, distance learning, webinars and practical (in-person) contacts as well as the requirement to coach within your own coaching environment.
